What "Converting" a PDF to SCORM Actually Means
A PDF never literally becomes SCORM. What the converter does is package your PDF so an LMS can launch it and track it. Here is exactly what that involves - and what it doesn't.
It wraps your PDF in a SCORM package
Your PDF stays a PDF. The converter builds a SCORM shell around it - a structured .zip containing your file plus the code an LMS needs to open and monitor it. When a learner clicks the course, that shell launches your PDF and handles the reporting in the background. The content is unchanged; the wrapper is what's new.
It adds a manifest so your LMS recognizes the course
Every SCORM package includes an imsmanifest.xml - the instruction sheet that tells your LMS what the course is, how to launch it, and how to score it. It is the difference between a PDF your LMS treats as a random attachment and one it treats as a trackable course. The converter generates this automatically.
It enables completion tracking
This is the whole reason to convert. Once wrapped, your LMS can record that a learner opened the course, how long they spent, and whether they finished - data a plain PDF upload can't give you. For a document, completion is marked when the learner opens the course or reaches the last page, since there is no quiz to score.
What it doesn't do is add interactivity
A wrapped PDF is still a document to read, not an interactive lesson. The conversion makes it trackable, not clickable - no new quizzes, branching, or animations unless your original PDF had them.
