What Are Microlearning Services?

Microlearning services are end-to-end services in which an eLearning provider designs, builds, and delivers short, focused learning modules on your behalf – covering strategy, scripting, instructional design, media production, accessibility, and LMS rollout. Instead of buying software or building courses yourself, you lean on a provider to get finished, ready-to-launch content.

A microlearning service is the right call when you have the learning outcome to hit but not the time, internal bandwidth, or specialised instructional design skill to build it well – especially when quality and speed matter, like compliance deadlines, onboarding backlogs, or product launches.

A microlearning module is a single unit of learning, usually 2 to 7 minutes long, built around one outcome. A microlearning program is a set of those units – typically six to twelve – sequenced, spaced and measured so the learning holds after the module ends.

what is microlearning services

Microlearning Formats We Build

Microlearning isn’t one thing. We pick the format from the outcome - not the other way round - and most programs mix three or four of these.

Micro-Video

Two to five minute explainers, demos and expert insights. Scripted to one idea, captioned by default, with AI or human voiceover in any of our 35+ languages.

Animation & Motion Graphics

For processes you can’t film - chemical reactions, claims workflows, machine internals, org change. Animation shows movement and cause-and-effect that static slides can’t.

Branching Scenarios

Realistic decisions with real consequences. Learners choose, see what happens, and get feedback that teaches - so they practise judgement before it costs you something.

Software & Process Simulations

A safe replica of the actual system or procedure. People click the real screens and follow the real steps, which is how software and SOP training actually transfers.

Quizzes & Knowledge Checks

Scored retrieval practice, not decoration. Every wrong answer gets remediation, and results feed straight into your Kirkpatrick Level 2 reporting.

Interactive Infographics

Data, comparisons and step-by-step processes rendered as one scannable visual. Ideal for policy summaries, product specs and anything people need to re-check later.

Job Aids & Checklists

Downloadable one-pagers and quick-reference cards for the moment of need. The module teaches it once; the job aid keeps it available at the bench, the ward or the counter.

Audio & Podcast Nuggets

For hands-busy, eyes-busy roles - drivers, field engineers, commuters. Short audio episodes carry updates, refreshers and leadership messages without a screen.

Flashcards & Spaced Recall

Terminology, product SKUs, drug names, safety codes. Built for repetition over time rather than a single pass, which is where recall actually forms.

Gamified Modules

Points, badges, streaks and leaderboards applied where competition helps - product knowledge, sales readiness, safety streaks - and left out where it doesn’t.

Scrolling Micro-Pages

Single-screen, mobile-first reference pages people can scroll in a gap between tasks. No navigation to learn, no player to load.

Immersive & AR/VR

On request, for high-risk or high-cost procedures where practising in the real environment isn’t safe or affordable.

Not sure which format fits your outcome? That’s the first thing we work out in discovery — and it’s free.

Our Microlearning Services

Strategy, build and technical delivery. Take the whole thing or just the part your team can’t cover.

Microlearning Strategy & Content Audit

Before anything gets built, we map your existing content and your actual performance gap. You get a module map: what to build, what to convert, what to retire, and which format each outcome needs. Available standalone if you want the plan before the build.

Custom Content Development

We design and build microlearning from your goals and source materials, mapping each module to a specific outcome rather than just chunking an existing course - tailored to your people, terminology, and workflows, not a generic template with your logo on top.

Video, Animation & Media Production

Scripting, storyboarding, voiceover, motion graphics and editing in-house. Captions and transcripts on every asset as standard, so media is accessible from day one rather than remediated later.

Interactive Scenarios & Simulations

Where retention depends on doing rather than watching, we build branching scenarios, consequence-based feedback and software or process simulations so people practise the judgement the job requires.

Compliance & Onboarding Programs

Microlearning for high-stakes, high-volume needs: compliance training that’s accurate, defensible, and completed on deadline, and onboarding that gets new hires productive faster - designed for measurable completion and pass rates.

Legacy Course Conversion

We turn 60-minute click-through courses into micro-units people finish. Not by slicing the file into shorter files - we re-audit against the objectives, cut what no longer earns its place, and rebuild the rest as outcome-mapped modules.

Localization & Global Delivery

We localise and translate microlearning across 35+ languages for multi-region workforces - adapting words, examples, and context so each version feels native. Roll a single program out to deskless and distributed teams without rebuilding it per market.

LMS Integration & Technical Delivery

We package to SCORM 1.2 / 2004, xAPI, cmi5 or AICC and integrate directly with your LMS or LXP, then test on your platform before handover - so launch is a hand-off, not a project.

L&D Team Extension

Overflow capacity when your internal team is at ceiling. Instructional designers, media producers and LMS specialists working inside your standards, your templates and your review process.

Training Needs We Cover

Compliance and onboarding are where most teams start. They are not where microlearning stops.

Compliance & Regulatory

Anti-bribery, data privacy, AML, GxP, code of conduct. Short, dated, defensible modules with scored checks and clean completion records for audit. Refresher units keep the obligation live between annual cycles.

Onboarding & Induction

Pre-boarding through first 90 days, released in sequence rather than dumped on day one. New hires get systems, policy and role basics in the order they actually need them.

Explore Onboarding →

Sales Enablement & Product Training

New SKUs, positioning, objection handling and competitor updates delivered in the field, on a phone, the week they ship. Scenario modules let reps rehearse the conversation before the customer does.

Health & Safety

Toolbox talks, PPE, LOTO, incident refreshers and near-miss lessons – built mobile-first for people who don’t sit at a desk and can’t leave the floor for an hour.

Soft Skills & Leadership

Feedback conversations, delegation, difficult customers, inclusive hiring. Branching scenarios beat lecture here, because the skill is judgement, not recall.

Systems, Software & Technical

ERP, CRM and internal tool rollouts. Process simulations plus job aids at the point of use, so support tickets drop instead of spiking after go-live.

Product Knowledge & Customer Service

Service protocols, escalation paths, product specs. Short units agents can complete between calls and re-check mid-conversation.

Culture, DEI & Internal Comms

Values, policy changes, restructures and engagement campaigns delivered as small, repeated moments rather than one town hall nobody remembers.

Industries We Serve

Regulatory context, terminology and shift patterns differ by sector - and so does the design. Here is where we work most.

Healthcare & Life Sciences

Clinical protocol updates, infection control, regulatory refreshers and device training for staff who can’t step away from patient care.

FMCG & Retail

High turnover, constant new lines. Product, planogram, service and safety training that a new starter can finish on shift, in their language.

AML, fraud, data privacy, product and suitability training with the audit trail a regulator expects and the brevity a busy adviser will accept.

Manufacturing & Energy

Safety procedures, machine operation, quality standards and permit-to-work refreshers for multilingual, multi-site, largely deskless workforces.

IT & Technology

Fast-moving tooling, security awareness, release notes and internal enablement for engineering and go-to-market teams that won’t sit through an hour.

Why Microlearning Works

Short doesn’t automatically mean effective. These are the five mechanisms that make microlearning work - and the reason we design the way we do.

The forgetting curve

Ebbinghaus showed in 1885 that most of what we learn in one sitting is gone within days unless it’s revisited. A single long course is a single exposure. Microlearning gives you cheap, repeatable exposures - which is the only thing that flattens the curve.

The spacing effect

Learning spread across intervals is retained better than the same content massed into one block - one of the most replicated findings in cognitive psychology (Cepeda et al., 2006 meta-analysis of 254 studies). We sequence release dates, not just modules.

The testing effect

Retrieving information strengthens memory more than re-reading it (Roediger & Karpicke, 2006). That’s why every module ends in a retrieval task with feedback, rather than a completion tick.

Cognitive load

Working memory is small (Sweller’s cognitive load theory). One objective per module keeps extraneous load down so attention goes to the thing that matters - the reason a chopped-up long course still fails.

Learning in the flow of work

Knowledge applied within minutes of learning transfers better than knowledge parked for later. Job aids, search-friendly micro-pages and 2-minute refreshers put the answer at the moment of need instead of the moment of scheduling.

A caution worth stating: none of this happens automatically because a module is short. Microlearning that isn’t spaced, isn’t retrieval-based and isn’t mapped to a real objective performs no better than the long course it replaced. Design quality is the variable, not duration.

How We Work

A clear, low-lift process that keeps your team involved at the decision points - and out of the production grind. Here’s the path from goal to launch inside the 5 to 7 week window.

1. Discovery

Week 1. We get clear on the outcome: who needs to learn what, why it matters, and how you’ll know it worked. We pull from your SMEs and existing materials in focused sessions - hours, not weeks - and you leave with a module map, defined scope, timeline, and success metrics.

2. Design and Storyboard

Weeks 2–3. We translate your goals into a learning approach and storyboards for each module before production. You see structure, flow, and sample screens early - while changes are cheap - and we lock the format to the outcome: video, scenario, quiz, job aid, or mix.

3. Build

Weeks 3–5. Our team produces the modules - writing, design, media, interactivity and accessibility - while you stay hands-off. You’re not editing slides or chasing assets; we bring you finished work to review, not raw materials to assemble.

4. Review

Week 5. You review against the storyboards you already approved, so feedback is targeted and quick. We run two structured revision rounds rather than open-ended back-and-forth, which keeps quality high and timelines predictable.

5. Launch and Iterate

Weeks 6–7. We package, test on your platform, and launch into your LMS - then look at the data. Completion, scores, drop-off points and feedback tell us what’s working, and we refine at 30 and 90 days so the program keeps improving instead of going stale.

Who Builds Your Microlearning

You get a named team, not a ticket queue. Here’s who touches your project and what they’re accountable for.

Instructional Designer

Owns the learning logic: objectives, module map, scenario design, assessment blueprint. This is the role most in-house teams don’t have spare capacity for, and the one that decides whether the program works.

Learning Experience Designer

Turns storyboards into on-brand screens, interactions and navigation - and keeps every build inside WCAG 2.1 AA rather than remediating it afterwards.

Media Producer

Script-to-screen: animation, motion graphics, editing, AI or human voiceover, captions and transcripts across all delivery languages.

LMS & Technical Specialist

Packaging, tracking configuration and platform testing. Confirms completion, scoring and xAPI statements behave correctly on your LMS before handover - not after go-live.

Project Manager

One point of contact, one schedule, one review calendar. Chases your SMEs so you don’t have to, and flags slippage before it costs you a launch date.

How We Measure Results

Completion rate is an attendance figure, not a result. Every build ships with Kirkpatrick Levels 1 and 2 instrumented; Levels 3 and 4 are available where your platform and data allow.

Level What it answers How we capture it Included
L1 · Reaction Did people find it relevant and worth their time? End-of-module rating and one open comment, reported by module Every build
L2 · Learning Did knowledge or skill actually move? Scored checks mapped to objectives, item-level analysis, pass rates, drop-off points Every build
L3 · Behaviour Are they doing it differently on the job? xAPI statements, job-aid access, repeat practice, 30/60-day manager check-ins Where your LMS/LRS supports xAPI
L4 · Results Did the business metric move? Tied to a number you already track — audit findings, incident rate, time-to-productivity, error rate, attach rate Scoped with you in discovery

You get a baseline at launch, a 30-day report and a 90-day report. If a module is under-performing, we tell you which one and why — and the fix is included in the first iteration round.

Accessibility, Standards & Tooling

Accessibility, standards and platform compatibility are part of the build, not a change request after it.

Accessible by default

We build to WCAG 2.1 AA and Section 508 as standard:

• Closed captions and downloadable transcripts on every video and audio asset
• Keyboard-operable interactions — no mouse-only drag-and-drop without an alternative
• Logical heading structure and screen-reader-compatible labelling
• Colour contrast checked; never colour alone to carry meaning
• Text alternatives for infographics and diagrams
• Adjustable playback and no auto-play traps

If you need a VPAT or an accessibility conformance statement for procurement, we’ll produce it with the deliverable.

Standards, tools & platforms

Publishing standards: SCORM 1.2, SCORM 2004, xAPI (Tin Can), cmi5, AICC, and plain responsive HTML5 where no LMS is involved.

Authoring & media tools: Articulate Storyline 360, Rise 360, Adobe Captivate, Vyond, Camtasia, After Effects, plus AI video and voice tools where they genuinely save you money.

Platforms we’ve deployed to: Moodle, Docebo, Cornerstone, SAP SuccessFactors, Workday Learning, Absorb, TalentLMS, Litmos, 360Learning, LearnUpon and Microsoft Viva Learning — among others.

Handover: packaged course files, source project files, media assets and a short admin note on how it’s configured. No lock-in.

Microlearning Services vs. Platform vs. In-House

Not sure whether to hire a service, buy the software, or build it yourself? Here’s how the three options compare on what actually matters — and how to tell which one you are.

Factor Microlearning Service (eSL) Off-the-Shelf Platform Build In-House
Speed to launch Live in 5–7 weeks Fast, but you build it Slow — competes with other work
Instructional design Expert ID built in DIY templates Depends on in-house skill
Upfront cost Fixed — $2,999 to $7,500 per course Annual licence, per seat Salaries + tooling + authoring licences
Team bandwidth Hours, not weeks Your team builds it all Heavy ongoing load
Customization Fully custom to your content Template-bound Custom if capacity allows
Accessibility (WCAG 2.1 AA) Built in, conformance statement on request Varies by vendor Yours to test and remediate
Localization 35+ languages from one master build Library languages only Separate vendor, separate cost
LMS-ready output SCORM + xAPI + cmi5, tested on your LMS Platform-locked You handle packaging
Content ownership Yours, including source files Access ends with the licence Yours
Best for Outcome + speed + quality High-volume DIY at scale Mature teams with spare capacity
Choose a service if…
the content is yours and specific, the deadline is real, and nobody internal has 200 spare hours for instructional design.
Choose a platform if…
you need generic soft-skills content at volume, have an internal team to curate it, and don’t need it to match your processes.
Build in-house if…
you already employ instructional designers and media producers who aren’t fully booked, and the content changes constantly.

When Microlearning Isn’t the Right Call

We would rather tell you now than take the project and disappoint you later.

Microlearning is a strong default for reinforcement, procedure, policy, product and awareness. It is a poor fit in four situations:

First exposure to dense conceptual material. If a learner has no mental model yet — a new regulatory framework, a new clinical protocol, a new financial product — short units give them fragments with nothing to hang them on. Teach the frame first, then reinforce with micro.

Complex skills that need extended supervised practice. Negotiation, clinical decision-making, people management. Micro-scenarios sharpen these; they don’t build them from zero. Use microlearning around the coaching or workshop, not instead of it.

Physical, hands-on competencies. Anything requiring an assessor watching a person do the thing. Microlearning can prepare and refresh, but the sign-off happens in person.

Regulator-mandated seat time. Where a rule specifies a course duration, you need that course. We’ll build the mandated course and wrap microlearning around it for retention — that combination usually passes audit and actually works.

If your project falls into one of these, we’ll say so on the discovery call and propose the format that will work instead — including a custom eLearning, scenario-based or blended approach.

Microlearning Services FAQs

The most common questions we get about our microlearning services.

Pricing, Timelines & Scope

We publish fixed pricing per course (30 to 60 minutes of seat time): Rapid Build $2,999, Professional Build $4,500 and Enterprise Build $7,500. For microlearning that course is delivered as 6 to 12 micro-modules of 2 to 7 minutes rather than one long sitting. Cost is driven by level of interactivity, multimedia requirements and whether simulation is involved — not by hourly billing. Localisation into any of our 35+ languages is quoted separately at scoping.

A course with an intermediate level of interactivity is delivered in 5 to 7 weeks, depending on complexity, SME availability and review turnaround. Enterprise simulation builds have their timeline confirmed at scoping. Because structure is storyboarded and approved upfront, timelines stay predictable rather than drifting.

No fixed minimum beyond a single course at the Rapid Build tier. Many clients start with one course to prove the approach internally before commissioning a wider programme across topics or regions.

Discovery, storyboarding, design, build, revision cycles, accessibility, SCORM/xAPI packaging and LMS testing are all inside the tier price — as is access to our full authoring and AI production stack, so you buy no software licences. Quoted separately at scoping: additional languages and formal accessibility conformance statements. After launch, up to 10% of updates requested within three months are free; ongoing maintenance runs $500 to $1,000 depending on scope. Nothing is added mid-project without your sign-off.

Format & Design

Most effective microlearning runs between 2 and 7 minutes per unit — long enough to cover one clear idea, short enough to finish in a gap between tasks. A program stacks six to twelve of these into 30–60 minutes of total seat time, released over days or weeks rather than all at once.

Traditional eLearning bundles many objectives into one long course completed in a single sitting. Microlearning breaks learning into short, focused units, each targeting one outcome, designed to be revisited over time and reinforced through spacing. The difference isn’t only length — it’s that each unit is separately findable, separately measurable and separately updatable.

Video, animation, branching scenarios, software and process simulations, quizzes, interactive infographics, job aids, audio nuggets, flashcards, gamified modules and scrolling micro-pages. We recommend the format from the outcome in discovery — recall problems get retrieval formats, judgement problems get scenarios, procedure problems get simulation and job aids — and you approve the mix before production starts.

Yes. We audit the existing course against its objectives, keep what still earns its place, cut what doesn’t, and rebuild the rest as outcome-mapped micro-units. We don’t simply slice a long course into shorter files — that keeps the original length problem and adds a navigation one.

Yes. Modules are built mobile-first — portrait layouts, large tap targets, low-bandwidth media, and offline-tolerant packaging where your LMS supports it — so frontline, field and shift-based staff can complete training on a phone between tasks rather than queuing for a terminal.

Technical, Accessibility & Ownership

We build in Articulate Storyline 360, Rise 360, Adobe Captivate, Vyond, Camtasia and After Effects, plus AI video and voice tools where they genuinely save budget. We publish to SCORM 1.2, SCORM 2004, xAPI, cmi5 and AICC, and have deployed to Moodle, Docebo, Cornerstone, SAP SuccessFactors, Workday Learning, Absorb, TalentLMS, Litmos, 360Learning, LearnUpon and Viva Learning, among others. If your platform isn’t listed, we’ll test against it during build rather than at launch.

Yes — WCAG 2.1 AA and Section 508 are the default, not an upgrade. That means captions and transcripts on all media, keyboard-operable interactions, screen-reader-compatible structure, contrast-checked colour, text alternatives for visuals, and no meaning carried by colour alone. A formal accessibility conformance statement or VPAT is available for procurement.

You do. Everything we build is yours, and we hand over the final packaged content along with source files where you need them — so you’re never locked into us for future edits.

We work under NDA as standard. Source materials stay in an access-controlled project workspace, are shared only with the named team on your project, and are returned or deleted at your instruction on closeout. If you have specific data-residency or security requirements, raise them in discovery and we’ll confirm in writing what we can and can’t meet.

Results & Fit

Short, spaced, retrieval-based learning is retained better than long single-sitting courses — the spacing effect and the testing effect are among the most replicated findings in cognitive psychology. But the gain comes from the design, not the duration: microlearning mapped to real outcomes and released over time outperforms a long course simply chopped into pieces. Anyone promising you a fixed percentage uplift before seeing your content is guessing.

Kirkpatrick Level 1 (reaction) and Level 2 (knowledge gain) are instrumented in every build, with item-level analysis and drop-off points reported at 30 and 90 days. Where your LMS or LRS supports xAPI, we can add Level 3 behavioural signals — job-aid access, repeat practice, manager check-ins. Level 4 is tied to a business number you already track, agreed in discovery so we’re measuring against your baseline, not ours.

Four cases: first exposure to dense conceptual material where the learner has no mental model yet; complex skills needing extended supervised practice; physical competencies requiring in-person assessment; and courses where a regulator mandates a specific seat time. In all four, microlearning works best as a reinforcement layer around a longer program rather than a replacement for it — and we’ll tell you on the discovery call if that’s your situation.
